The Ohio House of Representatives has passed Keith's Law, a piece of legislation aimed at improving the ability of first responders to assist individuals with special needs during emergencies. State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel (R-Columbiana) announced the passage on Wednesday.

House Bill 144 proposes the creation of a voluntary statewide database where individuals with special needs can share important information in advance. This data will be integrated into each county's 9-1-1 system and provided to first responders when they are dispatched, allowing them to deliver potentially life-saving assistance more effectively.

Robb Blasdel expressed gratitude for the work of first responders, stating, “Ohio is profoundly grateful for its first responders who play an essential role in keeping our families and communities strong, safe, and healthy. This legislation will equip these heroes with the information necessary to provide vital public services to all Ohioans.”

The database initiative will be managed by Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

Keith’s Law now awaits consideration from the Ohio Senate.
