State Rep. Al Cutrona (R-Canfield) has co-sponsored House Bill 327 to support Ohio’s workforce and address border-related employment issues by mandating the use of the E-Verify program for newly hired employees.

House Bill 327 requires employers to use E-Verify, a free internet-based service that confirms the eligibility of new hires within seconds. "This bill will ensure those who are working here in Ohio are actually legally eligible to do so," said Cutrona. "I am proud to support this legislation that is for Ohio’s workers. It will help the crisis at the border by verifying employees’ legal status to work in our state."

The legislation targets specific categories of employers, including contractors engaged in state or local public works construction, non-residential construction contractors, and any employer with 75 or more employees within Ohio.

The bill now moves to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
