Ohio House passes bill prohibiting arrest and citation quotas

State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel has announced the passage of House Bill 131 by the Ohio House of Representatives. This bipartisan legislation aims to eliminate quotas for arrests and citations in law enforcement agencies across the state.

The bill seeks to change the current practice, which allows officers to be required to issue a certain number of tickets daily. The objective is to prioritize quality over quantity in police work and foster better relationships between communities and law enforcement.

“Our law enforcement officers have a primary objective to preserve and improve public safety,” stated Robb Blasdel. “Quota systems have the effect of undermining the exercise of good judgment and useful discretion.”

House Bill 131 has garnered support from both law enforcement professionals and civil justice reform advocates. The bill now awaits consideration by the Ohio Senate.
