The Ohio House of Representatives has approved the historic Strategic Community Investment Fund, which includes $350 million for statewide, regional, and local projects. Sponsored and drafted by State Rep. Al Cutrona, the legislation aims to build a brighter future for Ohio. Cutrona stated, "My goal this general assembly was to bring back state dollars to communities throughout the state of Ohio, especially in areas that are often overlooked."

The Strategic Community Investment Fund will invest $2 billion in Ohio's future, benefiting generations to come. Cutrona emphasized the importance of this one-time funding in strengthening not only the Mahoning Valley region but the entire state of Ohio. He said, "Whether it is investing in tourism, public safety, health and wellness of our citizens, or helping instill community pride, this funding will have a lasting impact."

Cutrona championed several local provisions that will positively impact the Mahoning Valley region. These include over $10 million for projects at Youngstown State University, $2.9 million for the construction of a new Columbiana County Drug Task Force building, $1.5 million to expand kennel, education, and training facilities for Animal Charity of Ohio, and $875,000 for the construction of the new West Branch Regional Community Education and Wellness Training Center.

Other provisions include $750,000 for the construction of a new facility and preservation of buildings for the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, $660,000 for a new access road in the city of Campbell, and $500,000 for construction at Seven Ranges Scout Reservation to enhance the camping experience. Additionally, $250,000 will be allocated for the construction of a new fire station and EMS Facility for first responders in Hanover Township and surrounding areas.

The legislation also includes investments in preserving historical sites, such as $175,000 to restore the historic Lepper Library in Lisbon and $60,000 to renovate the War Vet Museum. These investments aim to ensure that communities can continue to enjoy these facilities for years to come.

Furthermore, the Strategic Community Investment Fund will allocate funds for various projects across Ohio. These include $600 million for the School Building Program Assistance Fund, $400 million for the Public Works Commission Local Public Infrastructure and State Capital Improvement Program, $397.6 million for higher education projects, and $250 million for local jail construction.

These investments will be incorporated into the State Capital Budget bill, a two-year construction budget for capital projects. The approval of the Strategic Community Investment Fund marks a significant step towards building a brighter Ohio and ensuring the development and prosperity of communities throughout the state for generations to come.
